Patient Zero’s Demelza Green honoured as UX Leader of the Year at Women in Digital National Awards

We are absolutely ecstatic to announce that Demelza Green, our Principal Experience Manager, has been awarded the esteemed title of UX Leader of the Year at the Women in Digital National Awards.

As the Principal Experience Manager here at Patient Zero, Demelza has been the driving force for our ground-breaking collaboration with Birrunga Gallery. Her leadership on the Augmented Reality app project has transformed the way we engage with art, connecting us to Indigenous stories and traditions through a vibrant digital lens.

This award isn't just about recognizing a job well done. It's about celebrating the journey Demelza led – from securing the funding, assembling a cross-functional development team, crafting the high-fidelity design, executing the app’s launch, marketing strategies and championing close collaboration with Indigenous artists to bring this story-telling innovation to life in months, not years.

What really made Demelza's work stand out was her strategy: it was all about making something user-friendly, innovative, and respectful. It’s no easy feat to balance the fresh possibilities of tech with the deep-seated values of culture and heritage. The judges summed it up perfectly;

“Goosebumps. Bridging our ancient culture with modern tech. Loved how she had defined design principles and guardrails to help drive the social impact of the app. The passion and deep respect for the Indigenous culture and storytelling while developing the solution is evident in the end result.”

Demelza herself reflects on this journey with humility; “This recognition goes beyond an individual achievement. It's a moment of pride for our entire team and a beacon for what we stand for at Patient Zero—pushing the envelope in digital innovation while honouring the essence of our shared heritage and stories.”

At Patient Zero, we’re all about making sure that tech serves a purpose and serves it well. Demelza's work on the Birrunga Gallery AR app is a shining example of that philosophy in action.

GPT-5 - the highly anticipated latest version of OpenAI’s hit the streets a few weeks ago. Despite of some breathless commentary from influencers who had been given early access, the eventual release was a bit underwhelming (in a way that only something that would have seemed like science-fiction a few short years ago but now seems passe, can be). Aside from the quality of the model itself, which some people have claimed was more about lowering OpenAI’s costs than delivering a better result, there are some issues that the change to GPT-5 has introduced when integrating it into a product which we thought we should share.

The ability to preview files directly within a web application is a major enhancement to user experience. Enabling users to view uploaded documents or images without needing to download them first saves time and reduces frustration. This can be a game changer in document-heavy applications where users frequently and recursively review and upload files through the interface. There are many libraries, packages, software subscriptions, and external API services (you name it!) that exist to solve this problem. But when spoiled for choice, it can be difficult to decide on which kind of solution best fits your application’s needs. This article explores this conundrum in the context of .NET Core web applications, with a focus on their specific quirks and requirements.
