Our verdict
It converts speech to text, which slows down the interaction. Voice is good, and as a therapist, plays the role pretty well from our engagements.

The gpt-4o-realtime-preview model introduces a new era in AI interaction by incorporating the new audio modality powered by gpt-4o. This new modality allows for seamless speech-to-speech and text-to-speech applications, providing a richer and more engaging user experience.
Our verdict
Great for quick voice interactions, although built for developers to build on top of. Very configurable across a range of options with considerable prompting ability. You can't replicate people's voices, and putting a face to it requires your own development.
Replika
Replika is an AI chatbot app that provides users with a customisable, empathetic digital companion to chat with, learn from, and grow with over time. Its goal is to offer emotional support, promote positive thinking, and combat loneliness by simulating human-like conversations and developing a unique personality that learns and remembers information from its user.
Our verdict
It's slow and confused most of the time. Most of its brain power is when it is in boyfriend mode. We're a bit surprised that people are marrying their Replika companions, based on the quality we experienced.
D-iD
D-ID is an AI-powered platform that makes it easy to create videos with digital people. You can turn a simple photo into a talking video with realistic facial movements. Record your voice to add a replica of yourself or someone else. You can choose the underlying LLM to use; in this case, we used a similar GPT to the AI Foundry demo.
Our verdict
It's relatively new and in preview mode, but it is very powerful in image, voice replication, and personality matching.
