Winner: Digital Design & Innovation (Good Design Awards)

September 15, 2023

Patient Zero has been awarded the prestigious Good Design Award Winner accolade in the Digital Design category. As Australia's oldest and most respected international design endorsement, this win validates the world-class capability of our 100% onshore engineering teams.

The award recognises the Birrunga Gallery AR App, an immersive augmented reality experience that allows visitors to interact directly with First Nations artists. It stands as a benchmark for how sovereign capability can bridge the gap between ancient storytelling and cutting-edge technology.

Setting the Standard for Digital Design

The Good Design Awards Jury praised Patient Zero for "sticking to best-in-class design principles," noting that the app uses "intentional digital design" to enhance, not distract from the user experience.

“The community connections achieved through the app makes it clear that the teams' guiding principles were deeply respected and successfully upheld.”

For our enterprise clients, this confirms that Patient Zero delivers User-Centred Design (UCD) that holds up to international scrutiny. We don't just build software; we craft digital products that solve complex human problems.

Validating Sovereign Innovation

This project was designed, built, and launched entirely on Meanjin (Brisbane) land. It is a powerful example of Sovereign Innovation, proving that Australian teams can deliver global-standard technology without offshoring a single line of code.

By keeping the team 100% onshore, we ensured that the cultural nuances of the Wiradyuri stories were preserved with absolute integrity, a level of collaboration that is impossible with disconnected offshore teams.

Sustainable Engineering

Beyond the "shiny" AR features, this project was an exercise in Sustainable Engineering. As Demelza Green (Principal Experience Manager, now Co-CEO) noted, the gallery artwork changes every six weeks.

We didn't just build a one-off app; we engineered a flexible content platform that considered the long-term costs of production and maintenance. This "Total Cost of Ownership" mindset is exactly what we bring to our Software Development projects, ensuring you get a solution that is sustainable, scalable, and cost-effective.

Why This Matters

This award serves as independent validation of our digital product capabilities:

International Recognition

The Good Design Award is an internationally recognised seal of quality, proving our design capability rivals any global agency.

Cultural Intelligence

Validates our unique ability to handle high-sensitivity content (Indigenous Data Sovereignty) with respect and technical precision.

Sustainable Architecture

Proves we build for the long term, considering maintenance costs and scalability from Day 1.
